Around a dozen other plants worldwide are already producing electrified vehicles or preparing for their production. At the end of 2021, the share of electrified vehicles in total production at the BMW Group’s Munich plant already stood at around 26%. This allows us to react flexibly as the role of electromobility becomes ever-more important.
In many BMW Group plants, vehicles with all-electric, plug-in hybrid drivetrains or combustion engines are already being produced on the same production line. The BMW Group’s production network spans across 31 locations in 15 countries. This makes the BMW Group stronger and more resilient. The car manufacturer not only benefits from the traditional high flexibility of its production network but also from the high-level qualification of its employees. For the 2021 production start of the all-electric BMW iX and BMW i4, BMW further optimised its vehicle production processes. This is particularly true for the global production network. The ongoing transformation towards electrification, digitalisation, efficiency and sustainability is having an impact on all areas of the BMW Group – in addition to human resources, development, suppliers and sales.
In this way, the Neue Klasse will make a significant contribution to reduce the carbon footprint across the entire vehicle life cycle. the preferred use of secondary materials when and wherever possible. In addition to this, it will achieve a new level of sustainability through the approaches underpinning the circular economy and the premise of “Secondary First” – i.e. It will also sport the next generation battery, an entirely newly developed high-voltage storage concept with optimised cell design, and last but not least a revolutionary interior experience.Īnd of course there will be individually configurable and bookable digital functions, attractive offers for driver assistance and automated driving. It will offer a typical BMW driving sensation, an emotional design, and a powerful and highly efficient drivetrain. Through the New Cluster Architecture, the BMW Group will create ultra-efficient and high-performance fully electric vehicles. This consists of the three future-oriented core elements – “electric”, “digital” and “circular” – and stands not only for innovative technology but also for new ways of working. The Neue Klasse is based on a flexible architecture – the so-called New Cluster Architecture (NCAR) – that is uncompromisingly oriented towards battery-electric drivetrains. By the middle of the decade, the Neue Klasse will have set new standards in digitalisation, electrification and sustainability in the BMW Group.
